Let’s get started on different apps that will help you to work smarter, not harder.

1. Any.do

Any.do is an app used by people to help them stay organized and maximize their productivity. This is a simple app that organizes your tasks, lists, and reminders, all in one space. It’s easy to keep track of your progress.

With this app, you can organize anything wherever you are by syncing all your content across all your devices. You can access your tasks, reminders, and list on any computer through an online browser.

Their calendar feature is my personal favorite. It is highly effective in helping you to stay organized and remember all of what you have planned to do.

So never forget a thing.

2. Forest App

Forest is one of the best productivity apps. It helps you stay focused on important tasks that you need to get done. It helps you to create self-discipline by overcoming distractions and phone addiction.

Use this app to help you stay accountable wherever you are.

This app is also highly motivating. Whenever you want to focus, plant a tree. Your tree will grow while you focus on your work. However, once you exit the app, your tree will die.

The Forest team partners with a real-tree planting organization, so whenever you spend the virtual coins you earn in the app, the forest team donates them to their partners and creates planting orders.

Important Note: This app is available across all IOS devices with a one-time purchase of USD$1.99. To unlock the non-IOS version of this app requires a separate purchase.

3. Anki Flashcards

This program is the ultimate tool for memorization. It makes remembering information so much easier. Anki utilizes one of the most effective study methods: active recall and spaced repetition.

I spoke a bit about active recalling in my Effective Ways To Ace Your Exam article.

This program is widely used and recommended by medical and law students. Anki also helps you to study for that Spanish oral exam or even that huge Psychology exam that you have coming up.

How this program works is that it adapts to what you already know and shows you the cards that you struggled with more often than the ones you didn’t. This way, it focuses on what you don't know more than what you already know.

Anki supports images, audio and videos to make memorizing information more enjoyable.

You can download this program on your desktop for free at: https://apps.ankiweb.net/

The desktop version is HIGHLY recommended.

In order to download the app on your IOS device, there is a one time purchase of USD $24.99.

4. Google Calendar

Another ultimate free organizational tool that boosts productivity is the good ol’ Google Calendar. I use this app to keep track of my class time, society event time, and assignments to complete. This app helps you spend less time managing your daily, weekly, or monthly schedule and more time actually getting stuff done.

If you prefer not to have a physical planner, then this is a great digital alternative. It requires you to sync it to your Google Account so it is available and synced across all devices.

All your information is safely backed up, so you don’t need to worry about losing your schedule if you should lose your phone or any other device.

The feature I love the most is the fact that I can color code all my events.

Who doesn’t love to color-coordinate everything?

This app is available for free on IOS and android devices.

5. Spotify

Non-lyrical music that is relaxing and soothing can help you to reduce anxiety and stress while studying, especially during long hours of studying. Music can promote endurance.

Sometimes, rather than sitting in complete silence, I love to study with lo-fi beats or alpha brain waves study music. I find that these beats keep me relaxed and focused. Listening to alpha brain waves music helps me to feel calmer, less anxious, and even boost my creativity levels.

So, if you are a person that loves to listen to music while being productive, Spotify is a great tool for great quality playlists created by musicians or even students themselves.

Students can get a discount for Spotify Premium if you are interested in getting rid of ads.

6. Do Not Disturb Feature

I saved the best app for last. It’s the “Do Not Disturb” application on your mobile phone, free of charge and extremely convenient. This feature is one that helps me a lot when I am doing assignments or studying.

Our phones are the biggest distractors. The Do Not Disturb feature mutes all calls, alerts, and notifications on your mobile device. With the help of your device settings, you can limit your phone interruptions.

Trust me when I say that this feature is heaven-sent.
